Wallpaper – how to use it creatively

We love working with texture and we very often use wallpaper to bring another dimension to doors and furniture. We are finding that clients are investing more into their fitted joinery to create a beautiful backdrop to their interior furnishings.

Innovation USA Wallpaper

Supplier: Innovation USA- Woodleaf – WLE-05 Silver

The dressing room and joinery doors of this Master bedroom were clad with intricate wallpaper from high-end American brand ‘Innovations’. Wood veneer leaves are hand applied to paper to create a unique wallcovering. This offers a great deal of flexibility and choice to the client and is vastly more interesting than a timber door in many cases.

We also applied Innovations wallpaper to the drawers of the nightstands – this time we added the texture and appearance of a grass cloth in a durable vinyl finish.

Weitzner wallpaper

Supplier: Altfield – Weitzner- Code: High tide W1049/01 marble

American brand Weitzner wallpaper (available through Altfield London), have these wonderful paper backed fabrics which feel so luxurious and offer a texture and softness to the homes we design.

Here we designed wallpaper into the doors of this one off furniture piece. It gives the appearance of molten metal or marble but with the luxurious soft feel of silk, and catches and reflects the light, contrasting against these bold bronze handles.

Designers Guild Wallpaper

Supplier: Designers Guild- Brand: Saraille aqua- Code: P600- col 04

Feature wallpaper on walls is the traditional way to add impact to a space, here we used a beautiful ombre wallpaper behind the bed in our Quinta Do Lago project and it adds such a calm, serene feeling to the space with oodles of impact.

Cole & Son

Supplier: Cole & Son- Festival Stripes- Glastonbury stripe- 96/4018

Here we have used a soft contrast white stripe wallpaper with a four poster bed (we do love to use this style of bed evidently!) and the paper adds interest to the geometric pattern on the canopy and the island style fretwork white art. Note we also added the wallpaper to the en-suite door on the far left hand side which is a jib door so remains as hidden as possible for a cleaner finish.

Phillip Jeffries

Finally we love to use a textural wallpapers and in these two examples we have added texture to the spaces adding to the feeling of softness within the room rather than simply using paint.  Its doesn’t need to be patterned to add impact!

Innovations lights and wallpaper

Brand: Innovations Code: Antwerp AWP-11 Westmalle

In this second example, we have used a beautiful pleated silk wallpaper to add a divine texture to the living room of our Quinta Do Lago project and compliment the wall lights specified.  These pretty lights are delicate and elegant and are inspired by coral from the tropics.  All in all, the two textures together are the ultimate way to create true layered luxury.

We will continue to find creative ways to exhibit these wonderful wallpapers and keep you posted with our finds.
